Mark Chapman is an experienced professional with over 20 years experience as a tax practitioner.

He brings a wealth of knowledge of Australian tax law, combined with a commercial eye and keen sense of business acumen to ensure that your clients get the best possible advice for their situation.

He specialises in tax advisory services to private companies, investors and wealthy individuals covering issues as diverse as business structuring, remuneration strategies, estate planning, property tax planning, retirement, business exits and tax issues for inbound and outbound migrants.

He also specialises in UK tax advice for businesses and individuals.

Mark writes extensively on tax matters for a variety of publications including MyBusiness magazine, Money magazine, Business First magazine and Executive Trader. He is a regular commentator on topical tax matters across radio, tv and the press. He is also a regular contributor to CCH’s Federal Tax Reporter and is a member of the professional advisory panel of Information Exchange (www.ifx.com.au).

Until recently, Mark was Head of Tax for Taxpayers Australia. He edited the Tax Summary, a plain English guide to the Australian tax system as well as the monthly Taxpayer magazine.

Mark is a regular presenter at seminars, conferences and discussion groups on both tax technical topics and practice management issues. His broad knowledge of the tax and accounting profession, combined with his extensive network across the profession and the tax administration means that he is well placed to advise practitioners on issues such as mergers, acquisitions, risk management and exit strategies. He is also an accomplished webinar presenter.

Mark spent 6 years as a Senior Director in the Australian Taxation Office, including a three year spell managing compliance processes for the High Wealth Individuals population. As Head of Tax at Taxpayers Australia, Mark was a member of the ATO’s peak community consultative group, the National Tax Liaison Group, where he represented the voice of Australian taxpayers in shaping the administration of the system. He was also a member of the ATO’s forums for tax practitioners and individual taxpayers.

Prior to coming to Australia, Mark was a tax adviser in the UK for 17 years, specialising in providing tax advice for private businesses and wealthy individuals. He worked for a variety of large accounting firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Grant Thornton and Baker Tilly before helping to form a small boutique practice offering innovative tax planning structures for wealthy private clients.

Mark is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and holds a Masters of Tax Law from the University of New South Wales.
